Be Fraîche Make Your Own Skincare
I had no idea that making skincare could be so much fun! Like cooking, creating beautiful and healthy skincare products is a matter of chemistry and balance. A few weeks ago, I attended a Gel & Mask workshop ran by Be Fraiche, and let me tell you: I had a truly fantastic time! If you are looking for something different to do in Sydney, for a new experience, if learning new skills and meeting others excite you, then read on, you won’t be disappointed! Be Fraiche is the first skincare company in Australia that runs workshops teaching people how to make natural skincare. Since its launch in 2016, Be Fraiche workshops have welcomed many belles & beaux who came to learn the art and science behind the skincare formulation of day to day products we use in our bathrooms. With an emphasis on creativity, Be Fraiche workshops are designed to be hands-on, packed with many tips and know-how so you can create your own formula and make products that suit you.
Each Be Fraiche work station has its own set of tools & equipment and instructions to create your own products. Gloves and an apron are provided for your safety. Equipment includes a scale that can measure at 0.00g, pipettes, inox jugs or bowls, a mini whisk and spatula for stirring.
Here I am making a lavender gel that can be used as an eye serum. The gel texture is obtained by combining xanthan gum with glycerine, lavender hydrosol (a by-product from the distillation process of essential oils) and liquorice extract. A non-toxic preservative (Preservative Eco) is added to allow the product to keep for up to 6 months. Did you know that lavender has calming properties?
Checking the PH of my homemade product is an important step before I bottle it up. If the PH is unbalanced, you are at risk of having a product that may dry out your skin.
A rose mask made with kaolin clay, pink clay, rhassoul clay and rose powder (grounded from rose petals). To activate your mask, before you apply it, you need to mix the dry powder with a toner made with chamomille hydrosol. Clay has many properties and its suitable for dry and sensitive skin.
